Omega Awards 43

Rising Star of the Week - Reginald Dampshaw III

RD3 has long been one of the most feared newer names on the OWA roster. He further solidified this by winning the inaugural Final Destination Men’s Battle Royal,  last eliminating Jake Keeton (a newcomer worth keeping an eye on). This could mean there are big things in store for the Englishman, who will no doubt be looking to convert this win into a major opportunity of some sort.

Promo Battle of the Week - Layne Kurobane vs. Jeff X vs. Nate Cage

With these three guys running their mouths, was there ever any doubt? The three top dogs in the Spartan division were keen to tear each other down, and didn’t rest until they’d had the last word. Whether it was Layne reminding everyone why he’s the longest reigning Spartan Champion in history, Jeff illustrating just how much he hates Nate Cage, or Nate waxing lyrical about how it was destiny to win the belt, everyone involved got their shots in.

Match of the Week - Layne Kurobane vs. Jeff X vs. Nate Cage

If anyone thought the match itself couldn’t live up to the build behind it, then they were proven wrong. The triple threat for the Spartan Title might just be the best match ever contested for the gold. Nate Cage got a taste of just how despised he is, with both men routinely teaming up to beat him down. Weapons got involved, announce tables exploded, and in the end, it was Jeff X who walked away victorious. Nobody will forget the thrilling sight of Jeff countering Layne’s Plus Ultra moonsault into his patented X-Crusher stunner. While Nate dived into the ring with the belt in hand to break up the pin, his body was too broken to do it quick enough, leading to feelgood win for Jeff.

Moment of the Week - We Say Goodbye to Jon McAdams (Jon McAdams)

A lot of us didn’t want to believe what we’d seen when the final bell rung on Jon McAdams vs. Keelan Callihan. In his last ever match, Jon was defeated by Keelan, who had the good sense to quickly vacate the ring and not draw any further ire from the fans. As McAdams stood there, 60,000+ cheering him on, he said his goodbyes and rode off into the sunset. To see one of OWA’s most respected veterans hang up the boots was a sombre visual, and we thank him for his time.

Promoer of the Week - Moongoose McQueen

A lot of people forget just how talented McQueen is. Maybe it’s to do with his over the top, theatrical antics, but he is a force to be reckoned with both in the ring and on the microphone. His harsh words heading into the ATTH ladder match highlighted everybody involved and had some real deep cuts. Whether it was Christopher Sabertooth’s failure to win when it counted, or Gareth Cason being a victim of his own hype machine, nobody was safe from Moongoose’s tirade. Everyone on Kingdom had better watch out for whatever this man has in mind for Season 2.

Champion of the Week - N/A

Goddess of the Week - Natalie Cage/Dulce Torres

It was an incredible weekend for the Odyssey brand, as we saw two pieces of history made. First, Dulce Torres scored a wild upset to cut Nikita LaShae’s Goddesses Title reign short, becoming the first ever two-time champion in OWA history. #Dulce2Reigns is now a thing, and the secondary Odyssey belt is once again on lockdown. Whoever takes it off her this time will be more than deserving of the accolade.

The night after, another arguable upset occurred, when Azumi Goto’s reign was put to an end by the self-proclaimed “Ace Killer,” Natalie Cage. Natalie said for weeks that she had Azumi’s number and, while she has unbelievable support from the fans, some of us were questioning if she really believed what she was saying. Well, we clearly shouldn’t doubt Natalie’s conviction ever again, as she put away a near ten-year veteran to capture her first world title, a mere eight months after making her pro wrestling debut. Natalie seems to keep piling up accolades, winning the first ever Clash of the Goddesses and winning the first ever Final Destination Women’s World Title match. Whoever wants to step up and challenge her will not be in for an easy ride.

Alpha of the Week - Aria Jaxon/Tarah Nova

The future is female, as all three of OWA’s world champions are now women. Where to even start with this? Aria Jaxon took an uncomfortable beating from Scott Oasis, and seemed to be in for a rather crushing defeat. Miraculously, she pulled through and scored one of the biggest upsets ever captured on tape, forcing The Iceman to tap out. Seeing my husband submit to Aria was not an easy pill to swallow, but she earned her spot at the top and I can’t begrudge her that. The stadium were in full support of her victory, and Aria is now the ruler of all she surveys on Kingdom.

On Night Two, Tarah Nova had to overcome a different kind of emotional challenge. As if it wasn’t enough to have one of the best to ever do it in Jacob Senn opposing her, but she also had another all-time great in the form of her own husband to deal with. CM Nas and Jacob Senn were not interested in coming second place, and Tarah Nova had to fight her heart out to come through with a victory, when she forced her husband to submit and capture the Olympus world title. Her own kids were even inadvertently involved in proceedings, but Tarah weathered the emotional storm and came out on top, closing out the weekend with a cathartic title win.
