Omega Weekly Awards VII

Isaac Thornton featured in one of OWA's promotion packages.

Rising Star of the Week

Layne Kurobane

OWA’s thrilling triple threats for debuting wrestlers have proven in the past to be a great way of determining the Rising Star of the Week, that is very much the case here. Layne Kurobane secured victory against the dazzling aerial offence of Senza Faccia and the highly controversial attitude of Dustin Duke. While Duke hit the final blow of the match, Layne walked away with the W and has even found himself in the main event of the next Kingdom against Isaac Thornton. Keep an eye on this athletic beast.

Promo Battle of the Week

Monolith vs. CASPIAN

Both men were coming into their match this week with a ton of momentum. Monolith almost murdered Scotty Adams (and took home last week’s Rising Star Award), and CASPIAN handed breakout star Nate Cage his first ever pinfall loss in the OWA in the main event of Kingdom. To match this momentum, their exchange of barbs was a treat for the fans. CASPIAN was his usual, sharp insult-ridden self, throwing out haymaker zinger after another. Monolith continued to be one of OWA’s most intriguing promo men didn’t let anyone forget he’s a danger to anyone who faces him. This is Monolith’s second weekly award in a row and if he keeps his promo work up to this standard, it will not be his last.

Match of the Week

Natasha Night vs. Diantha Moreau

The term “sleeper hit” is appropriate here. Based on this week’s Kingdom card, many might have overlooked the Queen of the Ring qualifier match between The Unchained’s Natasha Night and the aggressive Diantha Moreau. It was a back and forth match between two badass women that could have gone either way at multiple points. The crowd were heavily invested in the high energy athleticism and power displayed by both Night and Moreau, but it was the former who won and will advance to the Queen of the Ring match at Boiling Point. Diantha has nothing to be ashamed of though, her performance no doubt got a lot of attention from those watching.

Promoer of the Week

Christopher Sabretooth

Did anyone else well up with national pride during this promo? No? Just me then. Christopher Sabretooth addressed everyone involved in his incredibly fun tag match on the debut episode of Olympus, and thus becomes the first ever Olympus roster member to win a weekly award! Cutting a promo that both built towards his match and referenced our nation’s birth (albeit in an apathetic manner), Christopher Sabretooth with a win this week and with a win for America! Kind of.

Goddess of the Week

Natasha Night

She was in the match of the week and won, who else was going to be Goddess of the Week but Natasha Night? Her vicious and highly opinionated attitude may not be for everyone, but does it matter when she can get it done in the ring? No, no it doesn’t. Night is a stunningly talented competitor who scored a key win on Kingdom, and now she’s scooped up her second award in the same week. Watch out, Roxy, there are some dangerous women gunning for your title.

Alpha of the Week

Isaac Thornton

This should be the least surprising award of the week, Isaac Thornton got the single biggest win of his OWA career thus far. Who did he beat, I hear you ask? Only Finnegan goddamn Wakefield! Last week’s recipient of this award and our esteemed OWA World Champion lost to the movie star turned wrestler in a thrilling contest. Finn is currently in the middle of the single hottest run in all of OWA and Isaac Thornton walked in and put him away clean as a whistle. If this doesn’t put Thornton in the title picture come Boiling Point, I will be truly astounded.
