Rising Star of the Week
Heart and Seoul
These two are seriously going places. The loveable and highly athletic pairing of Koji Soo-Don and Hunter Goodwin scored another victory this week, this time in their PPV debut. No team has been able to stop this pairing as of yet, and their win over The Unchained at Boiling Point saw them named the #1 contenders for Wolvesden’s OWA Bloodline Tag Team Championships (even though Scott Oasis and Carlos Rosso should be champs right now). I imagine many fans are hoping Heart and Seoul free the belts from the grasp of Wolvesden, who seem to continuously come up with new ways to escape as champions by the skin of their teeth.
Promo Battle of the Week
Every Queen of the Ring Competitor
These ladies let the entire world know why they deserved to be the inaugural Queen of the Ring, and their exchanges before the match set up one of the most anticipated bouts in recent OWA memory. The eventual clash was every bit as emotional and exhilarating as we expected, the Goddess Division only moves from strength to strength.
Match of the Week
CM Nas vs. Miltiades
CM Nas said he just needed that one definitive defence, the title match that would cement his reign as the stuff of legend, and Miltiades gave him just that. There was so much heading into this that made the stakes impossibly high. Miltiades dramatically earned his shot by defeating none other than CM Nas’s own girlfriend (and the new #1 contender for the OWA Television Title), Tarah Nova. The battle was one for the ages, with Miltiades seriously appearing to have the victory in the bag at multiple points, hitting a phoenix splash to the outside and through the announce table in what might go down as the highlight of the entire year. When all was said and done, Nas remained champion, and the future of the Olympus brand could not be any brighter.
Promoer of the Week
The Vendetta Family
I lost count of how many promos this wrestling dynasty cut in the lead up to Boiling Point. Wins and losses aside, the Vendetta Clan made a statement that they’re in OWA to exercise their will, and their well-crafted, consistent promo work made them the dominant wordsmiths heading into their respective matches. Whether it was Roxy shit talking her way to another retention of her title, or her parents reminding everyone that they are bona fide legends in this sport, what they had to say was never boring.
Goddess of the Week
Savannah Sunshine
Could it have been anyone else? Last week, she shared this award with Azumi Goto. This week, Savannah makes history by becoming the first OWA competitor, male or female, to win the top award in their division two weeks in a row. And does she deserve it. Savannah Sunshine is the first ever Queen of the Ring, she now has a golden ticket to championship glory (if she can defend her ring when it is required, of course). Many believed Savannah was slipping under the radar, with her unsuccessful bids for the tag titles and her falling stature in the Goddess Division as a result of that. She proved to us all that that couldn’t be farther from the truth, as she now holds the keys to the kingdom. You go girl!
Alpha of the Week
Monolith
When the referee’s hand hit the mat for the three count during the Spartan’s Title match, you could hear a pin drop. The audience were stunned, they had seen the supposed unbreakable reign of Scotty Adams come crashing down at the hands of this monstrous figure. Monolith has been a threat to this division ever since Budokai Tenkaichi, and now he is its top dog. I know we talked a lot about who the one would be to end Scotty’s reign, but who the hell can dethrone this man? Whatever the rest of the Spartan’s Division do, they know that the final challenge will be to defeat this seemingly unbeatable beast. At this rate, it might take an actual Spartan to take him down.
