Omega Weekly Awards XI

Rising Star of the Week

Zak Zero

Rising Star was a tough call this week, an equal case could be made for the likes of Kai Stevens and Natalie Cage, but Zak Zero came within inches of shocking the world. In just his second match since debuting on Olympus, Zak almost scored a major upset victory over Gareth Cason on multiple occasions, and nearly relieved him of his TV Title in the process. Despite not winning his match, Zak came unbelievably close to pulling off possibly the single most newsworthy win in OWA history, and that counts for a lot.

Promo Battle of the Week

Natalie Cage vs. Serenity Scorpio

If the standard of promos we had this week from the women of OWA holds, then Odyssey is looking to be one of the best wrestling shows on the market. Natalie Cage has been a figure in OWA for a while now, but always as a running buddy of her already well-established brother, Nate. Stepping out of her champion sibling’s shadow to make her in-ring debut, she was met by Serenity Scorpio, who gave Natalie a verbal challenge that pushed the younger Cage sibling to her limit. Nate Cage is a feared talker in the OWA, so Natalie had a lot to live up to. But her cinematic and eerie proclamations were complemented perfectly by Serenity’s smooth talking, cool as a cucumber rebuttals. These are two women who I wouldn’t want to get into an argument with.

Match of the Week

Gareth Cason vs. Zak Zero

Our hearts all entered our throats more than once while watching this mini-epic between one of OWA’s most promising newcomers and one of our elite stars. I’m sure many assumed that this would be a routine win for Gareth as he marches towards a match with Tarah Nova at Burning Sky, but those plans were very nearly derailed. I genuinely thought we would see a new champion crowned right there and then in the final minutes of this encounter, the mother of all upsets. These two men should be proud of being part of such a battle.

Promoer of the Week

Finnegan Wakefield

What hasn’t already been said about Finnegan Wakefield? He’s the gold standard, the man to beat. If you’re in this industry and you don’t have ambitions of being where Finnegan Wakefield is then what are you doing here? In the build up to his impressive victory over a game Kai Stevens, Finn reminded us that he is much more than just a technical wizard, but a force to be reckoned with on the mic. He didn’t bat an eye at the onslaught of verbiage that Kai threw at him, brushing off his opponent with the calm and collected attitude that has led the champ to so much success. This is only another feather for Wakefield to add to his cap.

Goddess of the Week

TyAnna Jupiter

TyAnna previously won this award in her debut week in the OWA, and it is undeniable that she has earned this second one. Why? Because she pinned the champion in the middle of the ring. No shenanigans, no controversy, TyAnna continued her undefeated streak by defeating the top woman in the OWA in Sweet Roxy. If this doesn’t lead to a title shot somewhere down the line, I’ll be absolutely gobsmacked. At the very least, she has to be in the conversation for an opportunity at Savannah Sunshine’s Queen of the Ring crown. Wherever she goes after this, I have no doubt that TyAnna will be a cornerstone of Odyssey come September 1st.

Alpha of the Week

Gareth Cason

Jesus Christ, why were Zak and Gareth so good this week? It’s the third award off the back of just one match, but it really cannot be argued. As is the nature of the Television Championship, it’s going to be defended on regular programming far more often than other titles in the OWA, so you need a champion who is always on top of their game. Gareth gave every ounce of energy in his body to retain his belt in what could be the best match in weekly OWA television history. With Scotty Adams setting his sights on world championship gold, there is a spot open for a new workhorse champion to step up, and it might just be Gareth Cason. With another defence scheduled for next week and Tarah Nova waiting at Burning Sky, Gareth is operating at the very highest level right now. And this is why he’s winning his second Alpha of the Week Award.
