Omega Weekly Awards XIV

Rising Star of the Week – Judas

Putting in a dominant performance in the chaotic six-pack challenge, Judas scored both the first and last eliminations of the match. He started out with a lightning fast takedown of Zak Zero to end “The Uncrowned Hero’s” night early, and then submitted Miles Taylor while being pinned in a thrilling ending that is sure to be mired with controversy. Did special guest referee Carson Ramsay count to three before Miles tapped out? It can be argued, but all we know is that Judas walked away victorious.

Promo Battle of the Week – Tarah Nova vs. Gareth Cason

The war that these two went to with each other was truly one for the ages. This match had so much animosity heading into Burning Sky that there was no doubt in anyone’s mind that they’d go for the jugular in the promo department. Two of the best talkers in the business hashed out their problems and weren’t afraid to get personal. I only hope that we get to see them tangle with each other again someday.

Match of the Week – Sweet Roxy vs. TyAnna Jupiter

The emotions were at a fever pitch for this one. You had the hometown girl and champion in Sweet Roxy, taking on the undefeated and undeterred TyAnna Jupiter. Add in the last-minute no disqualification stipulation and you’ve got a classic on your hands. This had it all, near-falls that had the entire crowd breathless, TyAnna’s inner conflict over using a weapon, Roxy’s cagey antics to keep the belt no matter what, and of course, the monumental victory. We saw a brand new OWA Women’s Champion crowned in spectacular fashion, ushering in a new era as Odyssey debuts this Saturday. These women should be proud of what they accomplished.

Moment of the Week – Wolvesden are vanquished (Wolvesden, Heart and Seoul, and Scott Oasis)

We’ve been waiting for it for what feels like a lifetime, but Wolvesden’s reign of terror finally seems to have subsided. In one of the best big show openers we’ve ever seen in the OWA, Heart and Seoul managed to wrench the tag team titles away from the pack. Sorry to show my bias here, but Scott Oasis emerged from the ashes like a glorious phoenix to massacre Wolvesden’s numbers advantage, including driving Nate Cage through the set at the top of the entrance ramp! Seeing Wolvesden get their comeuppance and a team we can all get behind take home the gold was an amazing feelgood moment, and one that shan’t be forgotten anytime soon.

Promoer of the Week – Christopher Sabretooth

Christopher Sabretooth’s Hollywood movie-esque promos never cease to impress. Heading into his brawl with Andre Virgo, Chris let his charisma and grandiosity shine through with two verbose promos. He ran down Andre Virgo with tactile precision and venom, as well as got himself across as a top contender here in the OWA. Whatever’s next for Christopher Sabretooth, I wouldn’t be surprised if it involved championship gold.

Champion of the Week – Gareth Cason

What’s that? Another new award? You’re damn right it is! This is Champion of the Week, an award that goes to the title holder who represented their belt with the candour and excellence that only a champion can possess. While Gareth Cason’s win over Tarah Nova involved some chicanery from a mysterious entity (come on, it has to be Kenny Drake), he pulled off something stunning at Burning Sky; Gareth Cason is now on FIVE consecutive defences of his TV Title. That right there is an OWA record, and what’s even more impressive is that this was his fourth defence in as many weeks! Gareth truly is a special breed of talent, and whenever the time comes that he is no longer TV Champion, you have to imagine that world title contention is right around the corner.

Goddess of the Week – TyAnna Jupiter

It couldn’t have been anyone else. As TyAnna Jupiter held her newly won OWA Women’s Championship high above her head, I wanted to cry. She’s been on an unstoppable run in the OWA, toppling everyone who’s been put in front of her. To see this journey end with gold only felt right. And now her new journey begins, as she commences her conquest as the face of the incoming Odyssey brand. A champion to be proud of, and one who will no doubt go down as an OWA legend if she continues on this road.

Alpha of the Week – CM Nas

This isn’t about how CM Nas won his last man standing match with Nobi, it’s about whether he won. Nas has been on a quest, a quest to prove that he is the greatest world champion walking this Earth, and now he’s added another name to his growing list of would-be contenders. Nobi is beloved the world over by fans, but that adoration didn’t get the job done, as Nas completed his fourth successful defence of the Omega Heavyweight Championship. Nas has never looked more focused, more unbeatable, and that is why he’s winning his long overdue first ever Alpha of the Week Award.
