Rising Star of the Week – Dulce Torres
There were a fair few submission wins last week, including a lightning fast one from Dulce Torres. She tapped out the plucky Belle Hughes with relative ease, continuing her ascent up the ranks to determine the inaugural Odyssey Champion. Dulce is looking to carve out a name for herself and she finally has a real opening to do it.
Promo Battle of the Week – Nate Cage vs. Jeff X
This one felt incredibly personal. Both Nate and Jeff were coming out of Vindication with losses and had some frustrations to let out. Nate started off hot – literally – he burned down his freaking war room and damn near had a seizure on camera. Jeff, not to be outdone, highlighted why Nate’s hypocritical nature would be his undoing, before Nate only went to Jeff’s damn hometown and scared the crap out of some poor bartender. It was gritty, scary, and fierce.
Match of the Week – CM Nas vs. Andre Virgo
On paper, this was always going to be fantastic, I just don’t think we anticipated howfantastic. CM Nas had a real axe to grind with seemingly everyone for turning on him. The boos he was welcomed to got to the heavyweight champ, and it almost cost him at several key moments. Andre Virgo had us all believing he could score the win in a huge Champion vs. Champion clash. Jacob Senn provided commentary and almost handed a victory to Virgo, but Nas managed to pull through and pick up the win. His attitude may be pissing people off, but you can’t deny that Nas is still one of the very best in the game.
Moment of the Week – Wakefield and McAdams Lay it All Out (Finnegan Wakefield, Jon McAdams and The Goose)
The tension was palpable as Finnegan Wakefield confirmed that his next title defence will indeed be against Jon McAdams. Finn was candid about his run as champion, reminding us all that he is the standard bearer and his reign proves it. McAdams was more introspective, acknowledging his fall down the card and his hunger to re-enter the main event scene. The Goose didn’t need to do much talking (that’s a first), he simply sat there as a mediator as the two men let their feelings out. It was a fierce verbal battle that has everyone excited for the eventual meeting of two of OWA’s stalwarts.
Promoer of the Week – Isaac Thornton
Isaac was born to promo, and his arrogance got him what he wanted. His character assassination kit was broken out yet again, as he reduced CASPIAN to a parody of himself en route to winning his first God of War match. Isaac is set to main event Kingdom again this week against Nate Cage and whoever wins will surely be the very best candidate that Kingdom has for the job.
Champion of the Week – CM Nas
It cannot be denied. The Omega Heavyweight Champion defeated the SSW Junior Heavyweight Champion with the added distraction of his next title contender at ringside. Nas is closing in on six months as champ now, and stands as the longest-reigning champion we’ve ever had in OWA (as well as being our first). We are very much still in the Era of Ether.
Goddess of the Week – Eris
In the main event of Odyssey, Eris put away the longest-reigning OWA Women’s Champion in history, Sweet Roxy. Roxy has been displaying a much more aggressive side since losing her title at Burning Sky to TyAnna Jupiter, but it wasn’t enough to put away one of the most terrifying individuals in the Goddess Division. Eris is an imposing figure who will go on to do great things. At this point, she has to be a favourite to be the first Odyssey Champion.
Alpha of the Week – Miles Taylor
The biggest upsets in OWA history? Possibly. Not only did Miles Taylor defeat a former world title contender in Miltiades to advance to the semi-finals of the God of War tournament, he tapped him out. Miles is a vicious in-ring competitor who could probably submit anyone if he had the right opportunity. He’s going to have a tough hill to climb in Bull Connors if he wants to make it the final at Civil War, but he’s on an incredible roll as it stands.
