Omega Weekly Awards XVII

Rising Star of the Week – Jack the Ripper

Weird ass name and presence aside, Jack the Ripper earned a decisive victory over Mace this week with some good old blood spitting in the face. The fact he seems to identify with an actual, real life serial killer is a little concerning, but I’m not gonna be the one to tell him he can’t do it. Do you want to be? He’s also earned a spot in the six-pack challenge for a shot at the Spartan Title at Vindication. Finding yourself on a PPV card just a week after your debut is certainly a way to get noticed.

Promo Battle of the Week – Jack the Ripper vs. Mace

Well, this was an interesting pairing to say the least. A psychotic lunatic exchanging words with a chill as hell stoner makes for an odd conversation. Seeing Mace dismiss Jack’s threats with the coolheaded nature that only a pothead possesses was terrific fun, even if he did take the loss in the eventual match. Great work from both men.

Match of the Week – Layne Kurobane vs. Jax Wylde

Last week’s Rising Star Award winner didn’t hesitate to show us all why he’s back and better than ever. Jax Wylde took Layne Kurobane to his absolute limit in a match that continued to demonstrate why the Spartan’s division is so exciting. It was a highly competitive bout that could have gone either way. There were stunning displays of athleticism from Layne and violent cunning from Jax. It made for a unique matchup that won’t soon be forgotten by fans.

Moment of the Week – Kenny and Tarah Meet (Kenny Drake and Tarah Nova)

In a moment we’ve all been waiting for since Hardcore Havoc, the most violent rivalry in OWA history was officially rekindled, as Kenny Drake invited Tarah Nova to what appeared to be a peaceful negotiation. Terms were agreed upon for their match at Vindication, and what blockbuster terms they were. If Kenny loses, then he will leave the OWA forever. But if Tarah loses, she must join Wolvesden. Just as we thought things were concluding and that we’d have to wait for Sunday, Niki Khan decked Tarah for disrespecting her family. It was a disturbing sight and fans of Tarah Nova will no doubt be worried for her wellbeing as we head towards Vindication.

Promoer of the Week – Wolvesden

Talk about some bad bitches. Natalie Cage and Diantha Moreau brought the heat to their tag match against TyAnna Jupiter and Azumi Goto. They highlighted their journeys up to this point and why they’re surely the favourites to take the belt off of TyAnna. They clearly got inside the heads of their opponents, as their cohesion as a team carried on over to the eventual match, leading them to victory. This is the most unstoppable looking pairing we’ve seen in the OWA since… well, since Nate Cage and Kenny Drake.

Champion of the Week – N/A

No Champion of the Week this week as no champions had a match (that they won), though we’ll no doubt have an award to give out after Vindication.

Goddess of the Week – Diantha Moreau

Well, talk about a glow up. Diantha was initially thought to be a flop in the OWA, then she met Natalie Cage. Her indoctrination into Wolvesden isn’t exactly the most ethical move, but you can’t argue with results. She pinned Azumi Goto in the blockbuster main event of Odyssey, courtesy of Natalie Cage clocking her in the head with the OWA Women’s Championship. Diantha busted out Galactica, a frightening move that we hadn’t yet seen her perform. It was definitely overkill, as Azumi was already down and out, but that’s Wolvesden’s way. It isn’t about winning so much as it is sending a message. Diantha got back her win after losing to Azumi at Budokai Tenkaichi, and Wolvesden gained some serious momentum in securing victory over one of Odyssey’s top talents and the champ herself.

Alpha of the Week – Isaac Thornton

Isaac WAS NOT playing around this week. Making short work of J.D. Damon to send a message to Aria Jaxon, Isaac has made no secret of expressing his displeasure at no longer being in the OWA World Championship picture. With a match scheduled against one of the most dominant people in the entire company at Vindication, Isaac has carved a warpath that he intends to go straight through Aria on his journey back to the top.
