Omega Weekly Awards XVIII

Rising Star of the Week – Layne Kurobane

At this point, labelling Layne as a “rising star” might be met with confusion. He’s firmly established himself in the OWA already as a fan favourite and a worthy title contender. But he was in the ring with five guys who are all rising stars in their own right, and he beat every last one of them. Layne has another opportunity at Monolith’s title, and there are many who believe he might just have the monster’s number this time.

Promo Battle of the Week – Six Pack Challenge Competitors

To have six wrestlers all trying to get the attention of both the fans and the higher ups could easily devolve into a cluster. No such thing happened here. Every man involved in the six-pack challenge laid out exactly why they’re a future champion. While only one man could walk away with the victory, we absolutely saw stars in the making taking that first step in their OWA journeys.

Match of the Week – Kenny Drake vs. Tarah Nova

This was less of a match and more of a Dario Argento movie (look him up, I’m not your teacher). Kenny Drake and Tarah Nova’s hotly anticipated rematch was built towards all night with terrifying vignettes that pushed Tarah’s psyche to its limits. The eventual conflict did not disappoint, predictably populated with weapons, Wolvesden shenanigans, and death-defying moments of brutality. Kenny not only evened the score with his mortal enemy, but as per the match stipulation, Tarah Nova has now been forced to join Wolvesden. Where this goes is a horrifying prospect, as Tarah hasn’t exactly made friends with any of the group’s key members. Something tells me that the real conflict is only just beginning…

Moment of the Week – Scott Oasis and Nate Cage Go to War (Scott Oasis and Nate Cage)

The rivalry between these two has been violent, sickening…and…well, deeply personal. Putting my marriage to Scott Oasis aside and analysing this match as objectively as possible, it was still tough to watch. The moment that stood out more than anything was the introduction of thumbtacks to the proceedings. Both men got their fair share of pin cushion treatment, but Nate Cage was dumped onto the unforgiving metal spikes on both his back and head. This match was always going to be one that saw the two men rip each other apart, I just pray that for the health of both performers (yes, even Nate), that they can put this behind them.

Promoer of the Week – Aria Jaxon

We all know by now that Aria Jaxon is charisma personified. Her promoing abilities cut deep, and she let Isaac Thornton have every bit of it in the build to their monumental match. Aria went for it all, from Isaac’s acting career to his wrestling exploits. She brought up his failure to win the OWA World Championship at Boiling Point and highlighted why he needed this match for more than she did. Aria’s run of sheer dominance of the Alpha division has seen her lay waste to CASPIAN, Jon McAdams, Jeff X, and now Isaac Thornton. It won’t be long before we see her gunning for gold.

Champion of the Week – TyAnna Jupiter

TyAnna was in a glorified handicap match of her own design at Vindication, did it stop her? Of course not! She had to take on the deadly pairing of Natalie Cage and Diantha Moreau, who proved that there truly is no depth that they won’t sink to in the quest for greatness. TyAnna had to deal with damn near having her nose bitten off and watching Tomazeya Venus being driven through the announce desk. But TyAnna overcame the odds and managed to score a pinfall on Diantha Moreau, while Natalie Cage was all but knocked out cold from a Crescent Beam kick. However, there was another interesting occurrence in the Goddess Division.

Goddess of the Week – Azumi Goto

I am of course talking about what many are calling one of the biggest upsets in OWA history. Azumi Goto - entering her match with Savannah Sunshine off the back of two consecutive pinfall losses - is the new Queen of the Ring. Yep, you read that right. Savannah was considered by many to be the champion elect. The woman who would be the first to defeat TyAnna Jupiter. She had defended that ring against anyone and everyone, including best friend and fellow Sugar Girl, Jessica Rose. But Azumi Goto took the frustration of her losses on Odyssey and converted it into a shocking victory Could we be looking at the next OWA Women’s Champion? It’s certainly a possibility. Should have cashed in on TyAnna after the triple threat, Savannah. Loopholes, woman!

Alpha of the Week – Finnegan Wakefield

Can someone give me the number of Finn’s cardio trainer? Because I’m convinced this man is incapable of running out of stamina. In possibly the biggest world title match we’ve seen in this company, Finnegan Wakefield defended his title against the one man who many thought could pry it from his grasp, Scotty Adams. Scotty opted to not invoke his rematch clause for the Spartan Championship so that he could face Finn, but he was not ready in the end for the man whose trophy cabinet is filled with arms. It seems as though the next challenger to Wakefield’s crown will be none other than Jon McAdams, who finally left his ringside seat after the main event to make it clear that he belongs in the main event. If and when that match does occur, Finn will once again have to bring his A-game, but for now, he can enjoy being your Alpha of the Week.
