Rising Star of the Week – Jessykah Schwarz
Jess has made a major name for herself in a short space of time. This week, she got a convincing tap out victory over Aphrodite Marie, which put her high enough in the standings to be in the fatal four-way match at Civil War to determine the inaugural Goddesses Champion. She’s in there with stiff competition, but if she is able to perform at the level she has been doing, it may not be long before you see gold around this woman’s waist.
Promo Battle of the Week – Bull Connors vs. Miles Taylor
These two guys were always going to be a great pairing and they proved us all right. Miles and Bull are defined by their viciousness and refusal to mince words. They’re straight shooters who do not give a crap about being nice. Their no nonsense sounding off at each other before their God of War semi-final match was every bit as intense and vitriolic as we’ve come to expect. While Bull ultimately came out on top, Miles has caught a lot of people’s attention for his recent performances outside of his usual battle ground of Japan.
Match of the Week – Jon McAdams vs. Reginald Dampshaw III
This was swift and violent. Dear Reginald saw it fit to jump Jon McAdams before the “Sovereign” had even entered the ring. Jon was able to strike back against the beating though, and earned a hard-fought victory in a dramatic, tense match. The implications of this bout were of the championship variety, as a world title shot would have to be considered a reward for Dampshaw if he scored the win. It was not to be, however, as McAdams proved that he is ready to reclaim his spot at the top of the card and take the fight to Finnegan Wakefield.
Moment of the Week – The Trials of Niki Khan (Natalie Cage, Diantha Moreau, Niki Khan)
This was like something out of a freaking Saw movie. Not content with the punishments that Natalie and Diantha inflicted on each other last week for their loss at Vindication, Niki Khan saw it fit to put these two women through Hell to earn back her trust. It was a heinous series of tests, designed to psychologically torment the ladies of Wolvesden. Despite their downright evil antics recently, it was hard not to feel sorry for them a little, as Niki Khan abused her power over Wolvesden without Nate Cage around to keep things in order.
Promoer of the Week – Nate Cage
Nate’s direction with his promos has took an even more sinister turn than his old shtick. “Nate on the road,” as I’m calling it, saw the Wolvesden second-in-command begin with the typical shots at his opponent, Isaac Thornton. He just talked to the camera, hurled some insults and that was it. But his second promo that emanated from an actual theatre, where he staged a one man show as Isaac Thornton and proceeded to pick apart the actor’s career systematically? That was pretty damn creepy. This evolution of Nate’s style has served him well though, as he’s kept on winning since his crushing loss to Scott Oasis.
Champion of the Week – Gareth Cason
Six. Defences. Gareth Cason extended his streak of being the winningest champion in OWA history by racking up an incredible sixth title defence against the legendary Hades The Hellraiser. Despite holding his title for less time than both OWA world champs, he’s got almost as many defences as Finnegan Wakefield and CM Nas COMBINED. And with yet another defence on the horizon against Christopher Sabertooth at Civil War, Gareth has embodied his “Legit Dangerous” moniker and then some.
Goddess of the Week – Sweet Roxy
Roxy bounced back in a hell of a way this week, winning the main event of Odyssey against the infectiously loveable Kiara Roberson. Her methods were underhanded, but she got the job done and reminded us all that she is still near the top of the food chain. To further add to this, she was even named as one of the team members for the massive OWA vs. SSW Brody Sparks Tribute Match, which means a lot when you consider that she was picked by one of her fiercest rivals, TyAnna Jupiter. It’s easily been the best week for Roxy since losing the title, and she isn’t going anywhere.
Alpha of the Week – Nate Cage
Nate’s really broken out of his shell as of late in his reinvention as a singles competitor. He’s been on a warpath in the aptly named God of War tournament, brutally submitting rising star Jeff X last week and putting away former world title contender Isaac Thornton this week. Nate’s no longer using Wolvesden interference to win and is simply relying on his violent, aggressive nature to pummel his opponents. Whatever Scott Oasis awoke inside Nate when he drove his head into those thumbtacks at Vindication, it’s sent him on a quest to become the first ever OWA God of War. If he can get past Bull Connors at Civil War, everyone in the OWA locker room had better be on notice for the man who calls himself “Righteous.”
