Rising Star of the Week – Amora Ferris
Weird ass witch aesthetic aside, Amora Ferris impressed with a convincing victory in her debut match on Odyssey this week. She put away fellow newcomer, Y.T. Matheson and is no doubt looking to secure a strong spot in the already ultra-competitive field that is Saturday Night Odyssey.
Promo Battle of the Week – Aria Jaxon vs. Scotty Adams
Two people that we’ve wanted to see lock horns for some time now. While the match itself ended in surprisingly abrupt fashion, it was the back and forth between these two master wordsmiths that made for an entertaining time. Scotty’s almost labyrinthian style of storytelling was not to be outdone by the laser precise venom that Aria Jaxon is capable of spitting at any given moment.
Match of the Week – Monolith vs. Layne Kurobane
This one was an epic, plain and simple. Upping the ante from their previous encounter, the two Spartans went to war inside a barbed wire steel cage. There was drama, violence, and a thrilling finish that saw Layne hit a Plus Ultra from the top of the cage, taking advantage of an opening he created with a set of bolt cutters. The Spartan division has only moved from strength to strength, and this match only bolstered its already stellar reputation.
Moment of the Week – We Remember Brody
It was short, but poignant and touching. The peers of the late, great Brody Sparks shared their thoughts on the trailblazer, in an excellently put together package before the main event of Odyssey. The elimination tag match at Civil War in her memory is something everybody cannot wait for, and the fact so much time has been dedicated to educating newer fans on how important Brody was is beautiful to see.
Promoer of the Week – Natalie Cage
Natalie Cage is damn scary, plain and simple. Whether she’s talking to us from a hospital bed or a Humvee, her dictations are both poetic and intimidating. It fell to her to lead the charge in Odyssey’s main event this week for her team, and while they didn’t pick up the win, she did more talking than anyone else in the match and reminded us that she is not here to play games.
Champion of the Week – Monolith
Monolith defended his Spartan Title this week in the most barbaric structure the OWA has ever seen. And while he failed to retain his title, his incredible effort in the match itself reminded all of us why he won the belt in the first place. He tanked multiple finishers from Layne Kurobane, and still managed to walk away under his own power after the match finished. Rumour has it he suffered quite a severe rib injury in the match, and could be out for some time, which only adds to the toughness of this modern-day Viking.
Goddess of the Week – TyAnna Jupiter
Odyssey’s main event this week served as an appetizer for the approaching Brody Sparks Tribute match. TyAnna was keen to demonstrate that her team were indeed on the same page, as she led them to victory against the ladies of Wolvesden and the addition of Aphrodite Marie. The synergy on display was wonderful, and I have no doubt that this team will do us proud come Civil War.
Alpha of the Week – Layne Kurobane
Could it be anyone else? In just the second title change to take place on a weekly OWA television show, Layne Kurobane put away the seemingly unstoppable Monolith to finally capture the Spartan Title. It’s been a long, hard road for Layne, and he’s been beaten and bullied by his opponent en route to championship gold. Lord knows that he’s now got a target on his back the size of Gibraltar, but if anyone can step up to the plate, it’s Layne.
