Rising Star of the Week – Nolan Eliwood
Talk about a shock finish. After a heartfelt and sincere post-match conversation between CM Nas and Jacob Senn, Nas’s protégé and star pupil Nolan Eliwood made his main roster debut. The OWT upstart didn’t mess around in making himself known to the world, aligning himself with Saul Omen and damn near ruining what was an epic Day One main event. Eli might have made the biggest mistake of his life in betraying the best wrestler alive, but he’s certainly now on everyone’s radar, for better or worse.
Promo Battle of the Week – Brody Sparks Tribute Match
This match, on a personal level, was probably the most important on the whole show. Brody’s memory deserved to be honoured and she wasn’t let down by the women of this match. They all made it very clear that victory was secondary to paying tribute to their fallen comrade. It was beautiful to see such unity in the context of a wrestling match. I just know that Brody was smiling down on them all.
Match of the Week – War Games
Oh my God, what the hell didn’t this match have? We all knew it would be utter chaos from the start, but wow, what a contest. Ten absolute studs of the industry went hell for leather in two rings and two cages to deliver the most stunning spectacle perhaps ever in the OWA. While SSW ultimately walked away with the W (damn you, Aria Jaxon!), nobody here has anything to be ashamed of. It truly was an out and out war for the ages.
Moment of the Week – Why Scotty, Why? (Scotty Adams, Isaac Thornton, Finnegan Wakefield and Jon McAdams)
This…was honestly pretty sad. After Finnegan Wakefield was defeated by Jaydayne Pendragon (excellent match, by the way), Scotty Adams and Isaac Thornton came down to ambush the vulnerable OWA World Champion. Both men were Finn’s most recent victims in his incomparable world title reign, and they’ve sadly united against their common enemy. Jon McAdams made the save and helped ward off this new threat, but to see Scotty Adams throw away the support of the fans and sell his soul to the Devil was heart-breaking.
Promoer of the Week – Jeff X
This one might be a controversial pick, seeing as he only cut one promo, but I just wanted to remind everyone that Jeff X is one of the best promoers in the game today. If you don’t believe me, look at his work thus far. The rich imagery he conjures up, the conviction of his words and his no-nonsense attitude. He may not have been in the habit of winning a whole bunch recently, but this was his first ever big OWA show and he was in the freaking main event! He’s doing something right.
Champion of the Week – Layne Kurobane
Our boy Layne did us proud. Walking into his first match since winning the Spartan Title, he had an opponent who’s no slouch in Kai Stevens. Layne definitely had the people behind him and used that energy and adoration to overcome his dangerous opponent. The Spartan division is going to be just fine with this man at the top.
Goddess of the Week – Dulce Torres
The only woman who can be Goddess of the Week is the inaugural Goddesses Champion, of course! Dulce Torres came out on top in a crowded field of four to become the second women’s champion in OWA, serving as a workhorse counterpart to the title TyAnna Jupiter currently holds. This is a belt that sees its challengers decided based purely on Win/Loss records, so it’s guaranteed that only the crème de la crème of opponents will be put forward. Dulce has had an incredible rise to the top, long may she reign.
Alpha of the Week – Jacob Senn
Be honest, how many of you saw this coming? It seemed as though nobody alive was able to figure out the formula to take the Omega Heavyweight Title off of CM Nas. But Jacob Senn had other plans. In an outstanding half hour contest (that could easily have been Match of the Week), Senn concluded his year-long rivalry with Nas to become the second Omega Heavyweight Champion. This was the first ever world title change in OWA, and it couldn’t have gone to a more deserving performer. If there’s ever a rematch down the line, I don’t think anybody would be complaining. Tremendous work.
