Omega Weekly Awards XXXII

Rising Star of the Week - Allesandro Devione

The young gun had yet another big match on his plate. Just a week removed from an unsuccessful bid for Miltiades’ TV Championship, Devione took on the ever-dominant Gareth Cason. It was a bout that saw Devione take any and every shortcut he could in order to creatively score a win, but it was not to be. Cason won because, well, that’s what he does. But Devione proved he’s not to be trifled with and even earned himself a place in a match to determine the first ever OWA Cruiserweight Champion at Clash of the Titans. Not too shabby.

Promo Battle of the Week - Isaac Thornton vs. Jeff X

This is one of those matches that just works on paper. I doubt the OWA fans will ever tire of seeing Isaac and Jeff cut promos, let alone against each other. Jeff’s disrespect was offset by Isaac’s twinged arrogance, which was veiled in an almost melancholy feeling. I know that I want to see these to go at it again in the future.

Match of the Week - Layne Kurobane vs. Hans Olsen

The Jack of All Trades really met his match here. Layne is a celebrated grappler, but he more than had his hands full with an Olympic Gold medallist and it was something alright. There were breathtaking technical chain wrestling exchanges, brutal suplex wars (even spilling to the outside), and a star making performance both men can be proud of. Layne put his body through the ringer just a week before he’s set to challenge for the OWA World Championship. Hans has nothing to be ashamed of though, he took the Spartan Champ and #1 contender to his limit and is absolutely one to watch.

Moment of the Week - Scott Oasis Steps Up (Scott Oasis)

There was unfortunate news this week to close out Kingdom. Finnegan Wakefield is no longer a contracted OWA talent and as a result, the OWA World Championship is now vacant. In a shock announcement from Vernon Tressler, it was revealed that Layne Kurobane’s match at Clash of the Titans will now be against none other than Scott Oasis, with the vacant title on the line. This was a world shaking moment that sent the OWA fanbase into a frenzy. Layne now only has a week to prepare for his new challenger, and it’s no doubt going to be a spectacular bout.

Promoer of the Week - Nate Cage

Nate’s not one to shy away from running his mouth, which he went out of the way to do ahead of his match with RD3. Between asserting his new position as Wolvesden leader and bringing his opponent’s mental health into question, Nate made some regrettably good points. With the Clash on the horizon, Nate’s not short on enemies in the titular bout, but he isn’t scared of letting his enemies know a universal truth: he really doesn’t care.

Champion of the Week - Dulce Torres

Dulce had a spectacular defence against Wolvesden’s Diantha Moreau to get some major momentum for Clash of the Goddesses. Dulce has eyes on becoming the Daniel Cormier of women’s wrestling by procuring a second belt, and she has a seriously good shot. She’s disposed of nearly every threat that she’s had and has been nothing but a fighting champion. Her stock only continues to rise as she continues to be one of the most beloved members of the Odyssey roster.

Goddess of the Week - Sweet Roxy

Roxy made history this week by becoming the first person to wrestle on all three OWA brands. On top of that, she won a massive fatal four-way against one half of her opponents for the tag title match at Clash of the Titans. Roxy pinned Tarah Nova after an incredible finish that saw her missile dropkick Maggall as he was delivering his finisher to the ShockCollar. Regardless of how you feel about her, Roxy repped Odyssey and did the girls proud, let’s see if she can follow through and bring the tag titles over to the Goddesses brand.

Alpha of the Week - Christopher Sabertooth

Chris made waves by earning a shot at Jacob Senn’s Omega Heavyweight Championship. We’ll see the match go down at Clash of the Titans and it’s going to be a barnburner. Sabertooth secured his shot after taking a pretty heinous beating from Carlos Rosso, but he persevered and after a minor assist from CM Nas, was able to put away the industry legend to earn his first ever world title shot in OWA. The real challenge awaits at the Clash, but right now, he can enjoy being Alpha of the Week.
