Omega Weekly Awards XXXIV

Rising Star of the Week - Donny Dragon

The newbie defnitely didn’t have it easy this week. Donny Dragon had to take on the debuting European goliath, Adelmaur Sauer. He got his chest destroyed and was dropped on his head far too many times, but what was a real upset on paper came to be. After a Komodo knee out of nowhere, Donny scored a quick pin over the German giant, before gunning it out of the ring to avoid his wrath. There are certainly worse ways to start your career in OWA.

Promo Battle of the Week - Persephone Bane vs. Nicole Fyre

I guess this was a double debut. Sort of. Savannah Sunshine is no more, meet Persephone Bane, and she’s got some spooky ass promos to cut. On one side, the rebranded former Princess of Candyland let her darker side out and told the world what she’s about now. On the other, the former head trainer of OWT made it clear that she’s on Odyssey to stay. It was two very different approaches, one woman establishing change and the other lamenting said change. But the exchange between these two felt genuine and heated.

Match of the Week - Keelan Callihan vs. Kevin Maverick

We were spoiled with high quality in-ring action this week, picking the best of the best was not easy. But the returning Keelan Callihan brought a certain weight and excitement to his bout with Kevin Maverick. After hitting each other with dazzling, often wince inducing offence both in the ring and outside of it, Keelan got an impressive win and cut an impassioned promo afterwards. It is fitting that his last singles match before departing won this very same award, is it not?

Moment of the Week - The Dollhouse are...champions? (The Dollhouse)

It would appear that The Dollhouse aren’t taking their failure to capture gold at the Clash too well. After cutting a promo that made it clear they had the tag title fatal four-way won, the troublesome trio unveiled their own Women’s Tag Team Championships. Obviously, OWA officials aren’t about to sanction these belts, but I don’t think The Dollhouse care. They’ve got gold to put on their shoulders, I suppose, and are clearly nowhere near done in their pursuit of the Openweight Tag Team Titles.

Promoer of the Week - Nikita LaShae

After making a debut in the grandest of fashions in the Clash itself, Nikita’s way with words proved that she wasn’t a one-hit wonder. She took HENDRIX and Amy Jayne to task this week, lighting her opponents on fire with barbs about classism and overcoming stereotypes. This obviously gave her the confidence she needed, as she’d go on to win her first ever Odyssey match, alongside the returning Kiara Roberson.

Champion of the Week - N/A

Goddess of the Week - Diantha Moreau

It’s been quite a week for Wolvesden’s loose cannon. After putting in a stellar endurance record in Clash of the Goddesses, Diantha followed things up with a big time win over Natasha Night in the main event of Odyssey. Despite likely being exhausted after going almost an hour just one week ago, she secured a win that gives her some major momentum heading forward, with some kind of title opportunity no doubt being considered for “The Forgotten Senshi.”

Alpha of the Week - Carlos Rosso

It’s a brother/sister double header for the top two awards. Ladies and gentlemen, we have a new Television Champion! We thought Miltiades would reign forever, but his title run has been cut unceremoniously short by Carlos Rosso. Regardless of Rosso’s unsavoury technique to end proceedings, it was a shockingly one-sided affair for the most part. Miltiades was on the defensive for most of the night and we saw what many would call an upset. The legendary Carlos Rosso has captured his first title in OWA and could be gunning for a world title shot if he’s able to advance in the eight man tournament for the Omega Heavyweight Championship. Exciting times indeed.
