Omega Weekly Awards XXXIX

Rising Star of the Week - Alex Scott

In what many would label a shock upset, Alex Scott finally secured his first win in OWA at the expense of Kevin Maverick. Kevin dominated the bulk of the match, but Alex’s resiliency and quick thinking helped him weather the storm and walk away with a victory. This could be the start of big things for the young upstart.

Promo Battle of the Week - Diantha Moreau vs. Azumi Goto

This one was always going to be personal, with the inclusion of Erica Ford only adding more fuel to the fire. We got a glimpse into Diantha’s history, while the champ addressed the severity of her situation directly. It felt like a genuine exchange between champion and tip contender, only adding more layers of bitterness and violence to the eventual encounter between the two.

Match of the Week - Natalie Cage vs. Eris

Match of the Week’s really a coin toss. Every match at Pluto’s Gate delivered, and Kingdom had some strong offerings too. But it was the ludicrously violent, Tarantino-esque epic between Odyssey’s two most sadistic women that turned the most heads. The amount of punishment these women took was utterly barbaric, and the fact either of them can still walk, let alone wrestle, afterwards is nothing short of a miracle. I’ll never look at a screwdriver the same way again.

Moment of the Week - Jeff X Cracks Open A Cold One (Jeff X)

Not only did Jeff return victorious from his Keys to the Kingdom victory, but he made sure the fans joined in on the celebration. In an OWA first, the arena fell deathly silent, as thousands of people collectively threw back the beers in unison with OWA’s favourite alcoholic. It was an oddly heartwarming sight, and serves as a reminder that Jeff X truly is a man of the people, whether he likes it or not.

Promoer of the Week - The Dollhouse (Sweet Roxy and DiVa)

The Dollhouse have seriously turned shit talking into an artform. Thankfully, we have an award for that. While they didn’t win the battle for brand control, they still reminded all of us that their ability to verbally dissect people hasn’t dulled. iDoll Entertainment is certainly a brand to be reckoned with, and the tag team division needs to keep its head on a swivel.

Champion of the Week - Azumi Goto

First defence down, and what a defence it was. Azumi tapped into her darker side to summon the strength she needed to vanquish Diantha Moreau, but at what cost? She was able to tune out Erica Ford for long enough that she could hold onto her crown, and now has her sights set on taking on Natalie Cage at Final Destination, an encounter that many fans are already labelling a dream match. Azumi proved that she didn’t win the title by accident, she has every intent on staying as top dog.

Goddess of the Week - Nikita LaShae

Can you really call it an upset when the winner was on such a rapid ascent? After Natalie Cage’s rise from untested rookie to bonafide star, many wondered just who would be the next person to step up and replicate her come up. Nikita LaShae did more than just step up, she cleared the damn barrier. After just a month and a half of debuting, Nikita has dethroned Dulce Torres to capture the OWA Goddesses Title, putting a stop to a near five month long reign. It was an incredible moment to witness, starting a new era for the division and cementing Nikita as one of the fixtures of the brand.

Alpha of the Week - Donny Dragon

Donny’s winning ways continued on Kingdom, as he managed to pin current Spartan Champion, Layne Kurobane. Sure, Nate Cage provided a slight distraction, but Donny was still aware enough of his surroundings to convert it into a win. The young Donny still hasn’t been pinned or submitted in OWA, and he’s now notched wins over two of the three Spartan Champs. However, the real story is will Donny be awarded a title shot off the back of this victory, or is Nate Cage planning on swooping in to claim the opportunity for himself?
