Omega Weekly Awards XXXVIII

Rising Star of the Week - Nathan Fiora

The Chicago Noise’s debut match was no short order. He put his body on the line in a downright breathtaking extreme rules contest with Keelan Callihan. Through ladders, glass and flaming tables, Fiora didn’t come up victorious in his first OWA match, but he caught everybody’s attention for sure.

Promo Battle of the Week - Keelan Callihan vs. Nathan Fiora

Both men delved deep into their history for this one, harkening back to their first battle in a past life. Nathan Fiora talked on the passing of his late sister and the comparative lack of opportunities he’s received next to Keelan. The cunning Australian made his message clear: he’s better than Fiora and is simply made for bigger things. No punches were pulled, which was a precursor to the insane match that they would go on to have.

Match of the Week - Nate Cage vs. Natalie Cage

It was an emotional, dramatic, intense display. In a match that went almost 40 minutes, the Cage siblings took each other to war in a true epic. Nate got his head split open and became closely acquainted with the concrete floor, while Natalie may very well have broke her arm. The crowd were at a fever pitch for the whole thing, their reactions going from one extreme to the other as they witnessed the carnage. The most popular upstart in OWA vs. The most despised, it was always going to assault all of our senses. Some said it couldn’t live up to the hype, but I’d say it absolutely did.

Moment of the Week - The Wild Boys win the gold (Billy & Jimmy Wild)

In a shocking twist on Olympus, The Wild Boys took the OWA Openweight Tag Team Championships from Killer Alpha Squad in their first defence. The crowd were into it and it has completely changed the complexion of the tag team division. Will Killer Alpha Squad invoke their rematch clause? Will The Wild Boys defend at Scorched Earth? So many questions, but answers are scarce. What we do know is that for now, these two can celebrate long into the night, knowing that they sit atop the tag team mountain.

Promoer of the Week - Layne Kurobane

Anybody who must face Layne Kurobane has to deal with the beguiling nature of his promos. He picked apart Kevin Maverick, deconstructing his entire being and reassembling him in such a manner that he knew exactly how to put him down. At this point, Layne’s created an uphill battle for anyone that dares step in his ring.

Champion of the Week - Scott Oasis

Defence 1: Done. Writing about this isn’t easy, seeing as Scott’s opponent took me hostage in an effort to garner some leverage, but it didn’t work. Scott Oasis overcame seemingly everybody in Moogoose’s phonebook, finishing with a thrilling powerbomb from a ladder. He proved that winning the world title was no fluke, and what lies ahead is the main event of Final Destination.

Goddess of the Week - Natalie Cage

I mean, what more is there to say? Natalie Cage represented the entire Goddesses division and sacrificed her own arm to do it. She didn’t win her match, but she won our hearts. She brought Nate Cage to his limits in such a way that we’ve never witnessed before, likely sending him to the hospital in the process and walking out under her own power. Her post-match embrace with the Odyssey locker room, as well as Aria Jaxon and Viola DeMarco put the exclamation point on an incredible performance.

Alpha of the Week - Jeff X

Ladies and gentlemen, your first ever Keys to the Kingdom winner. Jeff X defeated five other men in his home state to finally win a PPV match. It was a long time coming, but the staunch fan favourite was the only man who could win to please the crowd. Everybody was firmly in Jeff’s corner, and now he finds himself on the potential path to championship gold. He told us all that he wanted a match at Final Destination, if he’s able to hold onto the Keys, he may very well be looking at a title shot.
